I hope that you heard the phrase:”Learn from the best.” I heard it as well a long time ago and decided to use every time when it possible, or make those possibilities as a stepping stones in my own learning experience and create those possibilities any time when it seems impossible.

Very often people are looking for immediate satisfaction in their development. They are expecting have only fun in their journey to happiness. In most cases this is empty expectations. I learned by myself and heard from others that sometimes you have to struggle to get what you want the most, as Tony Robbins said: “The secret of success is learning how to use pain and pleasure instead of having pain and pleasure use you. If you do that, you’re in control of your life. If you don’t, life controls you.”

I decided one day to teach the class on the subject “Competitive Pistol target shooting.” What can I do differently from others? Why my class can be different from others? What I know is different from the others? In order to make my class successful and help to make improvement in my students’ development I must learn all steps to the top and become the best in the subject that I would like to teach. A certain famous German philosopher said a long time ago: ”He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying.” Eventually I achieved my goal of becoming knowledgeable and experienced in most subject areas within competitive pistol target shooting. This is separating my class from many other instructors or classes on the same subject. I am glad to provide a good deal of knowledge and personal experience to all competitors who understand and respect the fact that the right set of knowledge is as valuable as your piece of equipment (custom made target pistol) if your interests lay in more than just collecting stuff.

What you will learn in my class that is different from others is not only that my class is based on my deep experience on the subject but also your personal involvement during the complete progression of the class. “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.” By Benjamin Franklin

What you will learn will become your second nature. You will recognize all elements of the process to make your performance more stable and consistent all the way to the desired performance. In most classes you will sit during most time of the class, there will be no room and time for your personal questions or analyses of your current performance; this is why all those previous classes did not work for you or make any tremendous impact on your personal development.

Let‘s talk about Competitive Olympic style target shooting.  Earlier I mentioned it as an equipment heavy activity. You need to invest around $4,000 to $7,000 in a few Olympic Competitive grade pistols, such as a CA Air pistol, a FREE Pistol, and a Standard Pistol around $2,000 each. No special classes are required. In common knowledge, you can compete as much as possible as long as it is FUN. This is the most common problem in the road of achievement the highest performance in Olympic style target shooting. A lack of structural and initial knowledge of the technical performance, too much attention on the technical part of the equipment, a very low level of problematic areas of the performance, too much motivational BS, and encouragement to buy “stuff” instead learning the structure of performance for people who just start looking in this direction in competitive performance.

First of all, from my point of view, a very low performance level in AP is 540-550 and below 540 in FP which is far from the description of “FUN”. As much as I remember myself during this short period of time to be at this level, it was most frustrating and unpleasant experience in my entire competitive career, simply because there were multiple issues interrupting the process. It takes time and a knowledgeable solution with an experienced mentor or coach who can work with you and help you to create a successful plan to overcome this level ASAP.  After you will be able to control your performance at the level above AP 565 & FP540, you will start to appreciate the game, your time, and the importance of the initial investment in your own equipment and education.  Otherwise, your money spent in Olympic style target shooting equipment serves as a simple conversational piece or collectable value.

In the light description of “FUN” in target shooting, I recommend you to try PPC Clubs (Police Pistol Combat Competitions) and events across the USA. This is what can be described as real “FUN” in the Target shooting.

Join us for the next PPC event in Michigan and learn the difference of your current meaning of expression “FUN”.    January 3 through 12, 2014    42 guns or more PLUS one safe and one optic sight will be given away! 😉

Comparison Between MyTwo Hobbies: Scuba Diving & Competitive Olympic style Target Shooting

Comparison Between My Two Hobbies: Scuba Diving & Competitive Olympic style Target Shooting (Part 1)

Since I was involved in two equipment “heavy” and quite expensive activities, I would like to share some thoughts and some experience about those subjects.

Cozumel. Mexico. My first Caribbean Sea Dive experience

Cozumel. Mexico. My first Caribbean Sea Dive experience.

I will start with SCUBA diving. First of all, in order to purchase the most expensive parts of your SCUBA diving kit in store, it will require you to show your Open Water certification card. In order to obtain this card, you have to accomplish the written exam on scuba diving theory, pool training, and the open water certification exam as well. On top of it, you have to admit that there are some risks involved to your life and to your health.  After the initiation of your SCUBA certification process, you can do many different things. You can start diving at your own risk; you can become a member of one of the local SCUBA diving clubs and dive with a group of more experienced divers; you can schedule a trip to exotic places around the world or you can continue to invest in your education and take different classes (The PADI Wreck Diver Course) to stay on top of your skills and knowledge.

After my recent SCUBA certification and a few local dives, we schedule our first Scuba diving trip to the Caribbean Sea. First of all, I have to admit that this is a great experience to do Scuba diving, especially in warm waters with a high level of visibility and abundance of marine life. Second, you will understand that your skill level and air consumption level is far away from your desired level. We finished our dives 30 minutes early than our boat companions. Despite our experience level in comparison to their 80 or more dives around the world, there is a simple solution: take more different classes and start working on our weakest links of performance, such as buoyancy control, weight distribution, and effective underwater movement techniques. All those parts will eventually help us reach our desired level of air consumption. Another trick is to switch to mixed air. It is mandatory to take another class to be an Enriched Air Diver, “PADI Scuba Diving with Enriched Air Nitrox”. What I like about SCUBA diving is that you have to socialize with the same open mind people who look in the same direction as you and respect the value of an educational approach. For me, it is the most effective model to achieve your goal in the most effective way with the least amount of time and trouble.

Our SCUBA Dive in Paradise Reef Cozumel Mexico, December 2013

Diving in the Paradise Reef

Diving in the Paradise Reef

How much do we pay for our dream vacations on average?

Well, on average we pay $3K to $4K for one week up to 10 days.  During our last trip to Cozumel, Mexico in December 2013, we met a couple of fellow Scuba divers who shared a boat trip with us for diving in the Paradise Reef. During our conversation, they told us that they already completed over 80 SCUBA dives in various sites around the world over the last four years. Simple calculation shows that they have invested around $16K in their hobby without counting equipment, only dives. On a monthly basis, the expense will be $333.30.  What I would like to point your attention to is that this is only one example from many other individuals who did over 1,000 dives in our hotel.  The point is that your hobby will cost you something. And we will pay by committing to our goal in one way or another.

I am surprised that many Olympic style competitive target shooting athletes are so reluctant to understand the simple truth. The competitive subject of Olympic Style target shooting performance must be handled by professionals who understand psychology and a deep knowledge of perfect single shot development. If you do not have sources to financially support your dream, it is better to do bowling since it is less stressful and inexpensive.

I am working to my plan of a next SCUBA dive at Key West, Florida on the shipwreck Athocha (1622 Spanish galleon)   in 2014.

What is your plan for 2014?
